The ISSP is an organization that applies the science and practice of psychiatry to the world of sports. Sport Psychiatrists use the biopsychosocial model in their work with athletes and teams.

The organization is ten years old and has over 100 members in various countries around the world. Members are in both academic and private practice settings. Important benefits of membership include being part of a regional referral network, an opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues, a quarterly newsletter, and periodic member profiles on the web-site.

  • An issue of a major journal devoted exclusively to Sport Psychiatry.


  • Sport Psychiatrists involved as consultants to high school, college and professional teams, as well as to individual athletes. Services provided include - individual and group consultations, the assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders in athletes, maximum team cohesion, psychiatric recovery from injury.


  • Consultation with fellow physicians in the disciplines of Sport Medicine, Pediatrics and orthopedics regarding their athlete-patients.


  • Guest speaking engagements to PTA's and Sports Associations regarding youth sports.


  • Seminars for coaches.
